BIG BLUE

Angularly hanging and erectly standing, the mildly oblique "Big Blue" subtly expresses breadth and architecture, while overtly singing its weighty scale through big band music. The sculpture is vertical in scale and startles the viewer with its off-putting and perspectively distorted composition. Smooth in finish, and cool sky blue in colour, the surface format of "Big Blue" alters and absorbs the light and shadow on and around it. Complimenting this strong interplay between overtness and subtlety is the music that plays from a small speaker-hole in the sculpture's upper right hand corner. The viewer presses a button on the side of "Big Blue" and from within the sculpture plays the famous Big Band standard "In the Mood" by Glenn Miller.
